Administration of the Choir

The Portland Lesbian Choir (PLC) is governed by its Steering Committee. Members of the Steering Committee are elected by the general membership each season and consist of the following positions: Steering Committee Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Music Committee Coordinator, Finance Coordinator, Production Coordinator, Publicity Coordinator and Fundraising Coordinator. The Music and Finance Coordinators have specified committees, and the other coordinators may choose to work with committees as well.

The Music Committee includes the Music Committee Coordinator, director, and a member from each of our four sections. They select the music we will perform.

The Steering Committee meets at least quarterly and implements, interprets, and complies with the PLC By-laws. Other responsibilities of the SC include long-range planning, screening performance opportunities, making Major Performance commitments, approving budgets and expenditures, recruiting and selecting Directors, coordinating elections, supervising and evaluating all elected and appointed officers and committees, and all other powers and duties not otherwise assigned.

We prefer to make Choir and committee decisions by consensus excepting the election of administrative offices. If consensus cannot be reached, we will take the time to formulate the best compromise proposal before putting it to a vote.

All choir meetings are open to the PLC membership. Members are encouraged to speak to their section representatives to share their ideas or the coordinator that represents their specific concern.
